# Architecture Portfolio for Students: A Realistic First Portfolio As a student, your architecture portfolio has a different job from a professional's. You are not expected to have built work or coordinated a construction set. You are expected to show potential: curiosity, process and the ability to develop an idea. ## What reviewers want from students University admissions and internship coordinators read student portfolios for: - **How you think.** Concept diagrams and process work matter more than finished renders. - **How you explore.** Sketches, models, experiments — evidence that you try things. - **How you learn.** A project that improved through iterations says more than a flawless one-shot. - **Basic craft.** Careful drawings, clear layouts, legible labels. ## Start with what you have A first portfolio can be built from: - your best studio projects (2–3 is enough) - sketches and process work - physical or digital models - a short statement of what you want to explore Do not pad it with weak work to reach a page count. ## University applications For university portfolios, check the specific requirements first — they vary widely.
