What is a comp card?

A comp card (composite card, zed card or Z-card) is a compact casting reference: one strong lead portrait, a few supporting images, measurements and contact details. Casting people use it to evaluate and remember a model quickly.

What goes on it

  • a strong lead portrait — usually a headshot
  • 3–5 supporting images showing range: full body, commercial, editorial
  • height and measurements
  • hair and eye colour
  • shoe and dress/suit sizing where relevant
  • agency/contact information

Four to six images in total is usually enough. Every photo should earn its place — a comp card is a quick-reference asset, not a contact sheet.

Comp card vs portfolio

The portfolio is the larger body of work; the comp card is the abridged quick-reference version pulled from it. A casting person may glance at the card first and open the wider portfolio only if there is a fit.

Digital vs print

Digital comp cards are easier to send, update and store — and this tool's print view and PDF export give you a print-ready version from the same data. Printed cards still have a place at physical castings and go-sees.

Important: comp cards are not digitals

Digitals are deliberately plain, current photographs that show your natural appearance. If an agency asks for digitals, send digitals — don't substitute a glossy comp card.

For the full breakdown of layout, measurements and common mistakes, read the model comp card guide — and see how comp cards fit with portfolios and digitals.

Want the full portfolio too?

Your comp card works standalone — but the complete portfolio product (curated book, digitals kit and public profile) is coming in beta.
