The fastest way to improve a fashion portfolio is to study strong ones. Not to copy them, but to understand the decisions behind them.

Strong examples share a structure, whatever the aesthetic:

• A clear point of view. You can state the designer's direction in a sentence.
• Process before product. Research and development pages lead into finished looks.
• Depth over breadth. A few projects done completely, not many shown shallowly.
• Consistent presentation. One layout system, one level of finish throughout.

What to study in each example

• The opening. How does the first spread establish the designer's voice?
• The process pages. How is research shown? Sketches? Fabric exploration?
• The garment presentation. Flat drawings, technical drawings, photos — what mix?
• The pacing. Where does the portfolio slow down and speed up?
• The closing. What is the last impression?
